It was first introduced at Chicago Auto Show in 2005.

It shares its basic design with Pontiac Bonneville.

First Generation (2006-Present)

Similar to the Pontiac Bonneville, the initial model uses 3800 V6 engine and also offered V8 engine as optional. The predecessor model to the vehicle is LeSabre. All the Lucerne models are produced at General Motor’s Hamtramck assembly plant and it won the Quality Awards from J.D. Power and Associates.

The standard engine to the model include 3.8 liter V6 version that delivers power up to 197 hp at 5200 rpm and torque of 233 lb ft at 3800 rpm. The other engines available include 4.6 liter Northstar V8 and 3.9 liter GM 3900 V6 versions.

The Buick Lucerne model was redesigned slightly in 2008. It received exterior colors and a new lane departure warning system. New trim versions introduced in 2008 include CXL special edition and Super.

The 2009 it received small upgrades, including a XM NavTraffic system, Bluetooth phone connectivity and new engine.

The current generation model is offered in four different trim versions, the base model CX, CXL, CXL special edition and Super. The starting price of the base model is around $29,230, while the cost of Super model is around $39,230. In the side impact tests and frontal impact tests conducted by NHTSA, the full size car scored good results.
